Are You Gambling With Your Life?

I sat next to a woman on the way home from Vegas who recently retired from her job of 35 years.  She was shocked when I told her I only lost $7 gambling (about 5 min. total on the slot machines).  My husband, Richard, and I had spent two long days in the Author 101 University conference learning how we can each write and market a book. While we were filling our souls up with inspiration and information from people like Mark Victor Hanson (The Chicken Soup For The Soul author), she was gambling her money in the slot machines and eating at the all you can eat buffet restaurants.  She was leaving Vegas having lost alot of money and having stuffed herself with empty calories.  She was very obese, and although she was beautiful in spirit, she shared with me that she felt that now that she had retired and raised her children, she had no purpose in life.

Her husband travelled quite a bit and was thrilled to be able to take care of her.  He insisted that they hire people to clean their house and take care of the yard work. She exclaimed, ” at least when I cleaned the house, I felt like I was contributing and had some purpose in life.”

Here is a woman who is able to travel when she wants, she doesn’t have to work and she is totally being taken care of.  Most people would love to trade places with her, but none of this bought her happiness.

The reason I share this with you is that happiness is derived by making a difference in other peoples’ life and loving oneself enough to take care of the temple we live in, our bodies.  My guess is that if she doesn’t start making some changes now, she will continue to gamble her life away.  We are divine creators and when we do not access our gifts, we wither.   At any point in time, you are either growing or dying.  Choose to live a life that is purpose driven.  Are you gambling with your life?  Are you sharing your passions with the world?  This is how true happiness is found….
